The Amsterdam Arena is the biggest sports stadion of the Netherlands, with more than 50.000 seats. Building started in 1993. Ajax scored its first goal in this stadion on August 21, 1996.

The name Schiphol was already used in the 15th century, but obviously the name was not a synonym for Amsterdam Airport in those days. In 1916 an airport was build at the site of what used to be the swamp Schiphol.

Zutphen was already a Germanic settlement in Roman times. In the Middle Ages it became a prosperous Hanze city. The Sint Walburgiskerk, on the right of the photo, dates from the 11th century.

The medieval city of Doesburg had a military function until the beginning of the twentieth century. Therefore it remained small and in a reasonably original state.

A charter from 877 describes seven farms of Deventer. But already in Roman times this place on the IJssel was inhabited. Like Zupthen and Kampen, Deventer was part of the Hanseatic League.

Lage Vuursche is very small town in the forest between Amsterdam and Utrecht.
Although the village consists only of a few dozen of houses, it has a millennia old history: the surrounding forest is dotted with prehistoric burial mounds.

Utrecht is founded by the Romans in the year 48 as Ultrajectum.
The church-tower is highest in The Netherlands: 112 meters. It is build between 1321 and 1382.
